Sally Masson, Hemel Hempstead Photographer, on location Children & Family Portraits

I have been photographing Children & Families in and around Hemel Hempstead for nearly five years now.  During this time I feel my skills as a photographer have grown enormously, the learning process never ends and experience teaches so much. I have learnt so much about light, where it is  coming from and how to use it is the key to craft great outdoor portraits, for me the subtle highlights backlighting a childs hair from the early or late sun is just magical and adds so much depth and beauty.  Hemel Hempstead Photographer

Hemel Hempstead Photographer, so do I just work in Hemel Hempstead?

Of course not, I work all over Herts, Beds & Bucks and sometimes further afield, I am always happy to plan in shoots an hour or two hours drive away.

Just some of my favorite places to shoot

There its lots of open space around Hemel Hempstead, and I have a few favorite locations to use, but one of my preferred spots is Long Deans or as it is more commonly known Bunkers Park, this area stretches right up from Nash Mills to the Bedmond Road, and is split into numerous fields, all year round it has something to offer, I have photographed there on beautiful sunny frost days, in snow and during the Spring and Summer months it is stunning, lots of unusual wildflower appears and beautifully colored grasses. I also explore Bunkers more-or-less on a daily basis with my Dogs, so I get to see every nook-and-cranny and usable space, the only thing it lacks in areas is good tree shade, so I tend to shoot here early in the morning or later in the day to avoid the strong sun.  During June, one of the fields turns into a carpet of large Daisies, this was once a field of Poppies, this makes a stunning backdrop for any shoot.

One of my other favorites is the Boxmoor Trust Land, again an array of areas to choose from, loads of huge Oak Trees and the River Bulbourne flowing through, there are lots of horses and Pedigree Belted Galloway cattle grazing in some areas of the Trust fields, these don’t tend to bother and can make a nice backdrop. Outside of Hemel I have had many shoots in Harpenden’s Rothamsted Park , which has a lovely tree lined walkway, a childrens park and large open space and also Tring Park has lovely meadow flowers. As we had into Autumn The Ashridge Estate is fabulous, lots of open space there with so much colour in the trees

Colour is all around us all year around, some people can’t always “see” it, but its always there 🙂
